I’ve spent the last year exploring the language of dance through movement, shape, form and its poetic nature. After years immersed in different styles of photography (documentary, product and portraiture), I was left at the end of the day itching to explore and express myself in other ways. I’ve spent most of my professional career working with athletes, motion, rythm, form and technique, and so it is only natural this would be strong influences in my photographic work. Most of my photos thus far have been collaborations with artists (dancers) who are very opened to exploring the nature of these compositions. My interest is not to capture necessarily a dance pose, jump, or a particular movement, but explore various forms and the visual language my subjects can express in a second and often can not be repeated. I refer to it as the visual poetry of dance and movement. I began my professional career as a swimming coach, though my education was in graphic design. I’m a self-taught photographer, and it was only about nine years ago when I picked up my first dslr. I spent the next few years in documentary and portrait photography. In 2017 I was hired to photograph an entire dance school and thus did my first ever studio photoshoots - 45 sessions in one day!, as well as documenting their dance recital. It was truly a soul opening experience. The following year I was hired to document for social media Panama’s National Ballet’s International Gala during a period of 3 months. Fort two years I waited for the right moment until I decided to make the time, and thus shot my first first images with soloist Melissa Gaona.
